The Original “Dog with a Blog”

Those of you with children who watch the Disney Channel may be familiar with their relatively new show, Dog with a Blog. Stan (the dog on the show) blogs about his experiences with his family. Great concept, which I think was inspired by my friend Bob, a Pit Bull from Everything and the Dog who writes “Daisy and Bob’s Blog“. Bob has been blogging for 4 years (his sister, Daisy, wrote the blog for 2 years before him), and his posts are informative and entertaining. And he got named “Best Blogger in Northern Virginia” a few years ago (to quote Bob, “And we aren’t just talking animal blogs. I mean ALL blogs). So I took him for a walk to see what I could learn.

Tell me a little about yourself.

My name is Bob. I am just Bob, not Robert or Bobby, just Bob. I like my name a lot. When I came to live with my forever Mom, I already had a name and it was Noisy Cricket. This is because I was the smallest of all of my brothers and sisters, and I chirped all the time, like a little cricket. I don’t think that Noisy Cricket is the worst name in the whole world (Editor’s note: I am not quite sure that I agree with that assessment), but when my Mom saw me for the first time, she said “Oh, it’s Bob”. So I was saved from a lifetime of misery with a stupid name. HA!

I am an original, that is for sure. I am a brindle color which is usually black and brown or brown and black (there is a difference), but in my fur it is brown and apricot. So I am quite beautiful. I don’t mind telling you this. I am not bragging. I am just telling the truth.

I was born on January 20 in the year of 2007. I was born in the State of Maine, where it was very cold on the day I decided to make an appearance. I am, as you know, an American Pit Bull Terrier. Or an APBT, or a Pit Bull. Lots of people think Pit Bulls are not good dogs, and one of my lifetime projects is helping people to understand us and to help to end breed discrimination.

How long have you been blogging?

When my “big sister” Princess Daisy, passed away from cancer in 2009, I didn’t think that I could really manage writing the Blog that she started in 2007.  She always told me there was little chance that I would be writing the Blog anytime soon. She actually told me since I was dumb as a stump, she seriously doubted I was good for much more than racing in circles and running into trees. But you know what? I didn’t care. I was so young then.

How do you decide what to write about?

That’s a pretty good question, but I really don’t have a big answer for you.  I just like a lot of things and I think that if I like to know about something then some other animal or their humans will like it too. Mom says I am just crazy and I pick the weirdest things to write about, and I guess that is kinda true. My big causes in life are to see an end to breed discrimination, to see whirled peas (world peace if you are a beauty queen) and getting the world to be a greener place by helping out with all the things that animals and their people can do to help the world. Sometimes I write about you, Ms. Ellen.

How do you actually write the blog?

I think about things a lot. Then my Mom and I sit down and I think into her head and she types stuff for me. As you know, I don’t have any thumbs, so typing by myself is impossible. And as for my Mouse Person, who is named Mope, he is pretty useless most of the time since he is always sleeping. But when I find him, I use him to fly us around in cyberspace so we can do our researching.

What do you do when you’re not blogging?

Well, I like to sleep. I think it is very important to get a lot of beauty sleep. And I eat twice a day. I also like to play with my Rat Terrier Sister, Scarlett Baby, but she can be grouchy at times (she is getting old, like my Mom). And then I have a lot of things to supervise. I am good at that. Oh and I commute between my new home in Winchester and our office here in Leesburg. I used to not like going in the car, but now that I figured out that it isn’t always for a visit to the vet doctor, I am liking it more.

Have you ever been recognized when you go out or do you travel in disguise?

I WANTED TO GET A DISGUISE, but Mom says that is a stupid idea. What would I disguise myself as, she asked me. A Chihuahua. But people do recognize me especially if I am at an event, or when I am visiting my vet doctor. Sometimes they take my picture. That is always fun, but you know all about that don’t you?

I’ve taken your photo before but I hear you’re not crazy about me taking photos of other dogs. Is this true and why?

I am clearly one of the most beautiful dogs you have ever met, and you know it (now really—don’t you). But I know that you are currently in love with my little bulldog sister, Smudge, and that’s okay. If you couldn’t photograph other dogs, it would be bad for your business and if it was bad for your business than maybe you would not have a business and if you did not have a business then you could not photograph me. Right?

Lastly, tell me something about yourself that no one knows.

I am really afraid of Flying Monkeys, but most of my readers know that. I guess my biggest wish is to be in a parade. I have always wanted to ride in a pretty pink convertible and wave at people on the side of the road. I would throw dog biscuits too.
