What to Expect From a Pet Photography Session

If you’ve never booked a pet photography session before, it’s completely normal to wonder how it all works. From our first conversation to your finished artwork, I’ll walk you through each step so there are no surprises — just a great experience.

We Start with a Conversation

Before we do anything else, I want to learn about you and your pet. What are you hoping to capture? Do you want to be in the photos? What is your pet’s personality? Are they regal, busy, joyful, goofy, or all of the above? What’s your must-have shot? There are no wrong answers — and honestly, who doesn’t love talking about their pet?

We Plan the Session Around Your Pet

Based on our conversation, we’ll figure out the details together : what location works best, when to schedule it, and what kinds of images you’re hoping to walk away with. Nothing is one-size-fits-all. Every session is built around your pet and what will work best for them.

The Photo Shoot

This is the fun part. Most sessions last about 90 minutes, but we’re not shooting the entire time. I build in plenty of time for your pet to sniff around, explore, and settle in. They get to do their thing, and I get to do mine — reading the light, choosing backgrounds, and creating the right conditions for great photos.

Whether your pet is high-energy or more easygoing, I’ll work with their personality and pace. The goal is always to capture who they really are. And if you’d like to be in the photos — which I’d encourage — we’ll make sure to include images that reflect the bond you share.

Your Ordering Appointment

About a week after your session, we’ll meet again, either in person or over Zoom, to go through your photos together. I’ll show you partially edited proofs of the best images, and you can choose your favorites. Then we’ll work together to figure out which sizes and products will work best for your space.

To take the guesswork out of sizing, I use software that shows your images to scale on photos of your actual walls. Just send me a few pictures of the spaces where you’re thinking of hanging your artwork, and I’ll show you exactly how everything will look before you commit to anything. You’ll know your photos are the right fit before they’re ever ordered.

After You Place Your Order

Once your order is in, I’ll begin the full retouching and final editing on every photo you’ve purchased as a printed product. Good work takes time; prints are usually ready in about four weeks, while albums take closer to six.

For payment, you can pay in full, split it into two payments, or set up a payment plan — whatever works best for you.

As a bonus, you’ll also receive free digital versions of every photo you’ve ordered as a print, sized perfectly for social media.
