Representing Team USA at the 2026 World Photographic Cup
I’m thrilled to share that one of my images was recently selected to represent the United States on Team USA at the 2026 World Photographic Cup. I captured the photograph during a trip to Manitoba, Canada, and it was chosen for the Wildlife category.
Photographing a Wolf Pack in Manitoba
I took the image along the Hudson Bay, where I spent eight days photographing Arctic wildlife. On the day of this encounter, our group followed fresh wolf tracks across the tundra until we reached a resting wolf pack. We watched as the wolves slept and relaxed in small groups, interacted subtly, and eventually joyfully reunited (all while from a safe distance). The image chosen for Team USA shows that moment of reconnection and offers an authentic look at the wolves’ natural pack dynamics.
The Encounter Behind the Image
We observed and photographed the pack for the better part of the day. As we approached, we moved slowly and closely watched their behavior to ensure we weren’t affecting it. Once we reached a safe distance, we stayed put and photographed the wolves from that spot. Throughout the encounter, the wolves remained calm, stayed aware of our presence, and still continued behaving naturally. Being able to spend that amount of time with a wild wolf pack is rare. Team USA Selection and the World Photographic Cup
Professional Photographers of America selected this image to represent Team USA at the World Photographic Cup. The competition brings together photographers from more than fifty countries, with each nation selecting 30 images across ten categories.
This is the second year in a row that one of my images has been chosen for Team USA. Last year, PPA chose a photograph of mine of a grizzly bear mother with her three cubs. I’m honored to have both images included. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to represent the United States.
