Ellie Learns to Ride a Tricycle
Ellie is a 4-month old English Bulldog puppy. Her parents, obviously, are completely in love with her. Lulu, the black cat, not so much (although they are making some progress). The photo above of her on the tricycle wasn’t taken at the circus or a class where cool dog and puppy tricks are taught. No velcro or glue was used. She really was sitting on the tricycle, but she did have some help staying on the seat from her mom. And a little help from Photoshop in removing her mom from the photo… :)
Not only did she “learn” how to ride a tricycle at her photo session, but she also became much more adept at learning the “sit” command (which is not nearly as much fun but definitely very useful). Her parents had only adopted her a few weeks earlier, so they had only been working with her for a little while on her obedience commands, and her puppy training class had not started yet. They ran out of their normal treats, so we gave her some of the treats I use. And that was all it took. Strong-smelling treats work really well in motivating dogs, and salmon treats fit the bill. Ellie couldn’t sit fast enough to get one; she absolutely loved them!
