Ellen Zangla Photography: 2017 Year in Review

It’s always hard to believe how quickly the year goes by. 2017 was a busy and eventful year, both personally and professionally. Personally, my (two-legged) son started high school, went to his first homecoming dance and spent New Year’s Eve with friends, rather than family, for the first time. We adopted our newest family member, our puppy Lola, from the amazing rescue organization,  Lonely Hearts Animal Rescue. Lola’s mom is a German Shepherd and Siberian Husky mix; we don’t know what her dad is. Some people think she has Boxer in her; a lot of folks think her dad was at least part Rhodesian Ridgeback. We think she’s awesome and that whatever her mix is, she’s perfect!!

One of my goals for 2017 was to double what I raised through fundraisers. Happily, I not only reached that goal, but exceeded it, tripling the amount I brought in, raising over $10,000. Most of this money went to various local animal rescue groups, including Friends of Homeless Animals, NOVA Pets Alive, the Loudoun Community Cat Coalition, Lonely Hearts Animal Rescue and the Pumpkin Benevolent Fund. And I couldn’t have done it without the support of my amazing partners—Woofie’s, Dog Day Afternoon, Happy Hound and Leesburg Vet Hospital—as well as the hundreds of people who brought their dogs and cats to be photographed at the different fundraisers.

I also earned a Bronze Medal through the Professional Photographers of America International Print Competition as well as having a number of award-winning prints at my state’s quarterly print competitions.

You can see some of my favorite pet photos from the year below. Enjoy!

Professional Photographers of America: 2017 Bronze Medal Photographer of the Year

My pets, two dogs and two cats, are an integral part of the fabric of my life. I absolutely adore them. Like other family members whom we love, I feel that it is incredibly important to have portraits of them that capture the essence of who they are, whether they’re regal or goofy (or both!) or somewhere in between. If you feel the same way about your dog, cat or other fur or scaled kid, here’s how you can learn more about a pet photo shoot with me works. Or feel free to contact me. I am a pet photographer, specializing in photographs of pets and pets with their people. I serve all of Northern Virginia, including Loudoun, Fairfax, Leesburg, Ashburn and Reston, as well the DC Metro area, and I would love to create pet portraits for you that you will treasure for a lifetime.
